Sagarmatha National Park is one of Nepal’s most iconic and culturally significant protected areas, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is best known as the home of Mount Everest Trek (Sagarmatha), the world’s highest peak.

Quick Facts about Sagarmatha National Park:

Solukhumbu District, Elevation Range: 2,835m (9,334ft) to 8,848m (29,031ft — Mt. Everest summit)

Major Highlights:

Mount Everest (Sagarmatha): The crown jewel of the park.

Famous Peaks: Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Cho Oyu.

Glaciers and Rivers: Includes Khumbu Glacier, Ngozumpa Glacier, and the Dudh Koshi River.

Flora and Fauna:

Despite its rugged terrain and high altitude, the park has rich biodiversity:

  • Flora (lower elevations): Rhododendron, birch, juniper, and blue pine.
  • Fauna: Snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, Himalayan monal (national bird), and blood pheasant.
